It was in 1967 that my dad said to me "It's time to get you a good guitar." He was the local counsel for Musicians Union Local 802 in Manhattan and of course, they said to him "Take your boy to Manny's!" So, off we went.
The first thing you noticed were the photo's of every damn musical act imaginable. I spent many days looking at those walls over the years. The second thing I noticed was that standing 10 feet across the room was Garth Hudson from The Band. "Holy Crap!" my 13 year old brain said. "A real rock star! What a cool place!"
I bought an ES 335 for $275 and a Fender Super Reverb for $250. Or maybe it was the other way around! The best gear I ever bought in my life.
Over the years, it was great to stop in to shop, or just to say hi. Henry, Stewie, Ian, Judd, and of course the irrepressible Holly (hey girl!)...Great folks all.
Being out here in LA for the last 7 years has been good, and working at Manny's West (now Sam Ash store 95) has been great. I miss New York and will always remember my fond musical memories at Manny's.
Best to you all,
Mitch Weissman
