I arrived in NYC Saturday July 14th 1983 from Louisville, KY to follow my music dreams. I started working for Manny's on Tuesday July 17th. I had no idea what an adventure working in a store could be. Of course, Manny's isn't just a "store": it was a magical place where musicians exchanged ideas, opinions and phone numbers. I would say it is one of the best arguments for "brick and mortar" vs. "alternatives"... Which is funny because I got my Rick 4001 shipped to me from Manny's back in the 70's... I still have the shipping label. To me it was never about the best deal on the best equipment... It was always about ideas and endless possibilities. To say I learned a lot is an understatement. Not just about gear, but Family, Camaraderie and the people who struggled to make music a career and in many ways made the world a much better place. I can honestly say that I probably learned more from my clients than they probably learned from me. Manny's plain and simple was family, and just about everybody who walked through the door. I am humbled at having had the opportunity to have been a small part of that wonderful institution. I could sure use one of Henry's Martinis right now...
