i would first like to say i really feel priviliged to be here and am humbled.i first came to mannys [the first store dark blue[..it was around 1958 my brother just came home from the navy aircraft carrier saratoga.we drove up to new york city for a day of fun and it was april my birthday.we were told about 48th street from another older brother musician.that knew manny thru musicians of the time mostly big band ..i wanted strings and picks as much as i wanted to get an electric guitar i did not have enough money.i came back a time later to mannys and met henry and as much as i drove him crazy with layaways he always was true to his word.i traded in an ampeg baby bass to buy a mosrite guitar that was in the middle of the front little window a beautifull gold flake with candy gold burgundy outline.it took me time but i got it home.i was playing lots of back home dance clubs and got to the metropol in times square where i played on and off over the years and met gene krupa, dizzy gillespi, hugo montenigro, and many more .i went to henry one day and being a fan of joe maphis i wanted a mosrite double neck 6 string twelve string.we waited a very long time for it and henry called and said its here come and get it,when i arrived at the store and henry opened the case i was actually numb it was so big but beautifull,a short time later i got signed to scepter records .henry was the first to know i went right to the store before i was due at scepter to do guitar tracks for the group i was with a group called the west side highway .the first thing henry said was wheres the picture of the group for the store so i got it to him as soon as they were done by bruno of hollywood.i always felt very proud that henry got the picture .i worked all the n.y.c. clubs for many years trudy hellers, harlows, many more and many sessions.over the years bought many other instuments some used and some new,in time my son was old enough he began playing and also bought guitars from henry and staff.i must say that henry and family are new york to me. it will never be new york without mannys and henry.mannys was and is a new york land mark..my life was better for the times i had and memories .i am now working with an indy label along with sid bernstein we are bringing in new talent and are working with some very talented and famous artists to date we have just finished a song with dionne warwick interestingly enough i was signed to scepter records the same time that she was.i hope that henry would approve as i hold him in very high regard. i hope i have said all the right things all my best to henry and family and a late happy birthday to henry your friend and dedicated customer bobby romano.email guyon265@aol.com
