Hiawatha Telephone Company

"Life is pleasant. Death is peaceful. It's the transition that's troublesome." (Isaac Asimov)

Hiawatha Telephone Company's 'Harry Smith was my Father' is a collection of one-take demos recorded in a single five hour session at Peppercorn Studios in Brighton (UK) in January 2009.

All the songs were written by Jon over the last five or so years. Jon sings and plays his Kay nylon string guitar (now a quarter of a century old) with no over dubs, as you can tell. You can listen to the full album over at last.fm, where you can also download the songs for free. Lyrics (and chords) are here. We're on Myspace and Facebook too.

"a lone urban cowboy singing his own earnest songs of melancholy with his trusted guitar" (The Crack, Newcastle)

Hi Sandi, It makes me smile the way I felt when Henry gave me my first "Schlepper" shirt. I have to laugh when I notice people speaking about "Abruptness" at Manny's. Being Jewish and from New York I guess I understood it better than most. I begged…
