We have lost a great musician and friend. Les was a Manny's customer and he will be missed.

City Sidewalk garden
July Hibiscus opening wide on high ivory
as morning crosses over to noon.
Perfect lacy circles drinking the heat-
big as LP's-
summer's white albums just released,
bearing drops of blood red
at their stylus centers.
These flowers,
they paly elephant music
on the pollination station-
special frequencies
for the young bees
to dance, dance, dance
the afternoon away
and draw out the shy…

When the seasons of mankind change and the certainties which once sustained us falter, it is to the
poets that we can turn...The questions which plague us are often the same dilemmas that poets have addressed since time begin counting itself in...
To read, to listen, to sing, to speak in the language of the heart requires nothing more (and nothing less) than a renewal and a recognition of our humanity...

The funniest memory (in retrospect) I have of Manny's is from September of 1976. I was living in Levittown, NY at the time, and I used to hitchhike into the city with my guitar all the time to play. I had no fear, and today you'd think even less sense, but this was a legitimate form of transportation in those days!. One night I got lucky though, and my friend Stevie Cochran arranged for me to ride into the city with his friend Brian. On the way downtown to the village, which is where I liked to…

Sandi: Thank you so much for giving us a chance to honor the people and the place that gave so many musicians an opportunity to conjure up sounds, magic and love.
I got my first drum kit there in 1973. Same kit that John Bonham was using....a kid could dream. I could only get this prized possession if I first accepted the challenge put forth by my dad. He'd pay for half, as long as I earned the other half.
For about six…

Our friends at Ning wrote a piece about The Virtual Wall of Fame for their blog!
Check it out:
Manny's Music, a musical instrument store in New York City opened by Manny Goldrich, closed its doors at the end of May after nearly 75 years of business. The store, long known as a landmark and icon, was a frequent stomping grounds for…

For those of you who live in the NY area or have visited here, you may be aware that the stretch of 48th Street between 6th and 7th Avenue has been known for decades as Music Row. Dating back to the Forties, a string of music stores including Sam Ash, Rudy's Guitars and several others have been the destination for musicians and enthusiasts alike...and standing head and shoulders above them all was the store founded by Manny Goldrich back in the late 30's..Manny's Music.
You name…

On the walls of the famed Manny’s Music store near Times Square, photographs of the world’s most renowned musicians hang in varying degrees of condition and age, many featuring personal notes that reflect the quirky personalities of their subjects.
If those walls could talk now, the sounds of lament would be crystal clear. After 74 years, Manny’s — at the heart and soul of Music Row on West 48th Street — closed its doors for good on Sunday.…

Hello. I'm Alexandra Goldrich. I'm the great grandaughter of Manny, the granddaughter of Henry, and the daughter of Ian. First of all, I would like to say about what an amazing job my aunt Holly did on this website. Congrats Holly.
Manny's had always been a fantastic place to be. Lucky for me I got to visit a lot more than other people did. I remember going to work with my dad and dusting the guitars and cleaning the counters. A few years ago, it was "take your daughter to work day;" and i…

Hi Sandi
I met you down at B. B. Kings a couple of weeks ago.
I was the road manager ( Roadie ) for Jimi Hendrix ( along with Gerry Stickles ) and I remember the first thing I did when I got to New York in 1967 was to visit the "One And Only" Legendary Music Store. I bought the first of "many"!!! White Strats for Jimj. I remember it like it was yesterday.
Mannys is an Icon in the history of Music.
My Very Best Wishes.

I would take the Canarsie line from Brooklyn on a saturday and hang on 48th street all day.I'd go into Many's look at the combo organs and amps. You'd never know who would walk through the door and I saw many of the musicians on the NY scene come into Mannys. It's the way it is these days.Time moves on and nothing stays forever. It's good that people will Remember what will always be a NY institution

Well, this is the beginning of my life....again. For the last 20 years, I have hidden myself, behind the clouds of others; hoping that the Sun would shine through their mist, and bring them closer to, whatever seemed to have evaded me. That all changed for me on April 13th, 2009. Mike Ciro, Gene Perez, Jon Peretz, Emedin Rivera, Al Chez, Kevin Osborne, and Marty Kersich, joined me to reform a wonderful band...".BENNY AND THE SPYDRS".
30 years…

Without Manny and Henry we wouldn't have been able to survive. I remember Manny at the original store standing outside drawing people into conversation and inviting them into the store and who can forget Henry's sardonic wit and the love I felt every time I walked into the store. He even gave me a job when I was really down and I am the worst salesman in the world. It truly was a family that included all who came through the doors.
